Enhancing Resilience of Small and Medium Enterprises through Knowledge Management in Security-Challenged Regions: Evidence from Northeast Nigeria
Keywords:

Small and Medium-sized Enterprises are increasingly vulnerable to external shocks, with limited capacity to recover due to constrained resources and inadequate knowledge structures. This study investigates the extent to which knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, and knowledge application influence SME resilience in Biu, Borno State. A structured survey was administered
on 372 SME operators in Biu metropolis, and the data were analyzed using multiple regression technique. The results indicate that all three dimensions of knowledge management significantly predict SME resilience in Biu. Knowledge acquisition enhances preparedness, knowledge sharing promotes internal cohesion and collaboration, while knowledge application ensures the strategic
use of insights to mitigate risks and maintain operations. These findings reinforce the KnowledgeBased Theory (KBT) proposition that knowledge must be created, shared, and internalized to generate organizational value. The study concludes that building resilient SMEs requires embedding knowledge processes into daily business routines. It recommends that SME managers invest in continuous learning, foster collaborative environments to encourage knowledge exchange, and prioritize the strategic application of knowledge in operational decision-making.
