Librarians’ Attitude and Problems of Application and Use of Information Communication Technologies at the Adamawa State University Mubi, Nigeria
Abstract
This research is on librarians’ attitude and problems of application and use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) at the Abdurrahman Ghaji Library, Adamawa State University, Mubi. Five (5) specific objectives guided the study. The survey research design was employed. The total enumeration sampling technique was adopted in studying the entire 21 librarians at the library. The study adopted a questionnaire as instrument for data collection of which 21 copies were distributed, but 20 copies were returned. The data collected were analyzed, using frequencies and percentages. The findings of the study show the application of numerous ICTs, with the E-Library having the highest number. It also reported that the librarians use the ICT facilities to low extent and manifests poor attitude. Power supply, lack of technical staff, internet problems, inadequate equipment, inadequate access to compatible ICT
software facilities and lack of skilled ICT personnel were part of the challenges facing the application and use of ICTs at the library. The study concludes that the librarians’ attitude towards ICTs is poor due to certain challenges. The study recommended that the university library should provide more ICTs and empower the librarians on their effective use, among other things.
